I am delighted to welcome you to Manila, Philippines, for the 10th edition of the FIVB Volleyball Women’s Club World Championship, a tournament which showcases the best women’s clubs from each continent.
Since the inaugural edition in 1991 the tournament has grown and grown and although it took a break in 1994, since its return in 2010 it has gone on to become the pinnacle for women’s volleyball clubs around the world, providing a fitting finale for the domestic season.
The tournament welcomes clubs from all over the world and this melting pot of talent helps to create a dynamic and fascinating contest. The last three editions have been held in Zurich and the Swiss city has played a crucial role in developing the competition and promoting the success of its participating teams.
The 2015 edition, which was won by Eczacibasi Vitra Istanbul, was the first time the FIVB’s Challenge System had been used at the event and gave fans a ground-breaking experience as volleyball looks to establish itself as the number one family entertainment sport in the world.
We are fortunate to have the dedicated support of our passionate and enthusiastic fans and I am confident that this year’s edition will be a huge success as volleyball continues to grow in popularity.
