Akinradewo extends Volero Zürich contract

 

Foluke Akinradewo in action for Volero Zürich

Zurich, Switzerland, January 14, 2016 - Foluke Akinradewo has extended her contract with Swiss champions Volero Zürich for another year. The 2015 FIVB Volleyball Women's Club World Championship hosts and bronze medallists will continue to count on a player who is also a key player for world champions the United States.

Volero Zürich President Stav Jacobi said: “Foluke is not only one of the best players in the world, but also an important team player. I have been looking for a middle blocker for many years. And with her first-ever contract extension before the end of the current season she is showing that she really wants to be a member of our team.”

Volero fans will next be able to soak in Akinradewo's silky skills on Thursday, January 21  when Volero take on RC Cannes at the Saalsporthalle in Zurich in the fifth leg of the 2016 CEV DenizBank Volleyabll Champions League - Women.

Akinradewo helped the USA to second place at the London 2012 Olympic Games after averaging 3.33 points per set (10th best overall) and finishing the second best blocker in the 2012 Olympics. At the 2010 edition of the FIVB Volleyball World Grand Prix, she was named MVP and Best Blocker as she helped USA to the first of three consecutive titles. In 2015, she participated in the United States' third-place finish at the FIVB Volleyball Women's World Cup in Japan. She returns from Lincoln, USA where coach Karch Kiraly's team qualified for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games at the NORCECA Olympic Qualification Tournament held last week.
