Akinradewo named official ambassador of the 2016 Women’s Club World Championship

 

Volero Zürich star Foluke Akinradewo looks forward to meeting fans at the 2016 FIVB Volleyball Women's Club World Championship in Manila, the Philippines.

Manila, Philippines, October 6, 2016 – 2014 FIVB Volleyball Women's World Championship winner and Rio 2016 Olympic Games bronze medallist Foluke Akinradewo of Volero Zürich has just been named official ambassador of the 2016 edition of the FIVB Volleyball Women's Club World Championship.

In exactly 12 days, the biggest stars in women’s volleyball will play for glory at the 2016 FIVB Volleyball Women’s Club World Championship in Manila, the Philippines.

This year’s edition of the most prestigious tournament in international women's club volleyball will without a doubt be a very special one for Akinradewo. The middle blocker of multiple Swiss champions Volero Zürich said: “It’s such an honour. I think we as female volleyball players are role models for young girls around the world too. That’s why I want to give something back - because that’s what sport is all about.”



The Rio 2016 bronze and London 2012 silver medallist is looking forward to her role as official ambassador. “I want to show young girls that they can chase their dreams and become professional athletes. They just have to live their passion for sport and work hard every day.”

Akinradewo is honoured many young volleyball fans see her as their idol. “I often receive kind messages from volleyball fans around the world on Facebook and Twitter. Young girls write to me that they feel inspired by me. There are no words to describe how honoured I feel when I read these messages.”

“Every young athlete needs somebody to look up to. It was the same for me when I started playing volleyball. That is why being a positive role model means so much to me – because every young volleyball fan deserves a role model,” she explained.

Akinradewo will meet her fans in the special Meet & Greet Zone after matches at the FIVB Volleyball Women’s Club World Championship in Manila.

“It’s always nice to meet fans and chat with them after games. In my opinion, the Meet & Greet Zone at the FIVB Volleyball Women’s Club World Championship is a great idea. I am already looking forward to meeting the fans in Manila.”
