Defending champions face European champions for world title

 

Manila, Philippines, October 22, 2016 - Defending champions Eczacibasi VitrA Istanbul renew their rivalry with reigning European champions Pomi Casalmaggiore for the ultimate club title, when they clash in the final of the 2016 FIVB Club World Championship at the Mall of Asia Arena in the Philippines capital.

Eczacibasi can become the first team in the history of the Club World Championships to win the title for a second time.

The two teams also met in pool play here in Manila, with Eczacibasi storming past the Italian club in straight sets on the opening day.

Earlier this season they had also met twice in pool play of the European Champions League, with each side scoring five-set away wins.

At the 2016 FIVB World Championship Eczacibasi remain the only undefeated team and now enjoy a winning streak of eight matches in the competition. They last lost in their opening game of the 2015 edition in Zurich to Hisamitsu Springs Kobe.
