Eczacibasi take first winning step in Club Worlds

Eczacibasi Vitra Istanbul celebrate a point against Pomi Casalmaggiore at the FIVB Volleyball Women's Club World Championship in Manila

Manila, Philippines, October 18, 2016 – Eczacibasi Vitra Istanbul are off to a good start with a 3-0 win over Pomi Casalmaggiore, but coach Massimo Barbolini and captain Neslihan Demir want to accomplish their goal step by step at the FIVB Volleyball Women’s Club World Championship at Mall of Asia Arena on Tuesday.

Massimo Barbolini, Eczacibasi Vitra Istanbul coach:  “It was not an easy game but we played a good match. We did a good job on block and defence because we have very good spikers. Winning this was only the first step. Now, we have one victory and three points, but we now have more confidence in what we do. It’s only the beginning and we started against the champions of Europe, so it’s not so easy. We have to improve because we can play better in the next matches for sure.”

Neslihan Demir, Eczacibasi Vitra Istanbul captain: “It was very important to start this tournament with a win, it's a long tournament, we need to go step by step. It was very good game, high quality volleyball in the court.”

Giovanni Caprara, Pomi Casalmaggiore coach: “It was an incredible match but the team was not able to jell today because we made a lot of mistakes, a lot of foul balls. We have two more matches to improve in this tournament.”

“I think the problem was not the pressure, and tomorrow we’ll play better for sure.”

Valentina Tirozzi, Pomi Casalmaggiore captain: “I’m very upset with the result of the match. Most of all with the way we lost this game. We made a lot of mistakes, so we know the first thing we have to work on. We have to work on our spikes and blocking, we have so many things to do. Our opponents are very strong.”
