Manila, Philippines, July 17, 2016 - Kim Fajardo of F2 Logistics has been unveiled as the third member of the Philippine Superliga (PSL) All-Star team that will turn out at the FIVB Volleyball Women’s Club World Championship at the Mall of Asia Arena in Manila, the Philippines from October 18 to 23.
Fajardo, a two-time collegiate champion, clinched one of the seven coveted slots after being awarded with a golden ticket by none other than PSL president Ramon Suzara and national federation official Peter Cayco.
Suzara said the 22-year old Fajardo has what it takes to join Jovelyn Gonzaga and Rachel Anne Daquis of RC Cola-Army in the team and is regarded as one of the brightest young setters in the country.
“She’s young and overflowing with potential,” said Suzara. “Exposure at a high-calibre tournament such as the Women’s Club World Championship will have a massive impact on her career and to the rise of Philippine volleyball in general. We expect Kim to do everything to make us proud.”
The chairman of the league, Philip Juico, is also looking forward to have Fajardo on board.
“She is regarded as the Philippines’ setter of the future,” Juico added. “This is a golden opportunity for her not only to prove her mettle, but also to gain experience she can apply in helping us in major international tournaments, including the Southeast Asian Games in 2019.”
Four local players and seven foreign players will join Fajardo, Gonzaga and Daquis, to comprise the 14-woman squad.
The announcement of the fourth member of the team will take place on Tuesday.
“We’re not yet done,” Suzara said. “We’re still deliberating and discussing about the four other local members of the team.”
The PSL All-Star team will compete against the world’s best club teams like Rexona AdeS of Brazil, Bangkok Glass of Thailand, Volero Zürich of Switzerland, Hisamitsu Springs of Japan, Eczacibasi VitrA Istanbul as well as VakifBank Istanbul of Turkey and Pomì Casalmaggiore of Italy.
