Manila looks ahead to exhilirating weekend of Club World Championship finals

PSL-F2 Logistics Manila captain Rachel Daquis celebrates with teammates Jovelyn Gonzaga and libero Jennylyn Reyes as the hosts claim their first set of the 2016 FIVB Club World Championships over defending champions Eczacibasi VitrA Istanbul

Manila, Philippines, October 21, 2016 - Pool play formally wrapped up Friday evening in Manila, setting up an action-packed all-European final four for the weekend at the 2016 FIVB Women's Club World Championships.

The semifinals include an Istanbul classic between defending champions Eczacibasi VitrA Istanbul and crosstown rivals and 2013 world champions VakifBank, in which the winner will set the foundations to potentially become the first club to win the world title for a second time.

This will be followed by the reigning European champions Pomi Casalmaggiore taking on 2015 bronze medallists Volero Zurich for the second ticket to Sunday's final.

VakifBank Istanbul opened play on Friday at the Mall of Asia Arena in the Philippines capital with a straight-set sweep of Bangkok Glass.

Eczacibasi wrapped up the day with a four-set win over hosts PSL - F2 Logistics Manila, who thrilled the almost 3,000-strong crowd by bagging their first set in the tournament against the world champions. It was a thrilling match - especially the rally to end the third set - which produced a host of new serving records.

With both Turkish already assured of a spot in the semifinals, their coaches took the opportunity to field lots of their reserves, resting their starters ahead of the big all-Turkish clash on Saturday.
