Gozde Gilmaz (pictured) and Neslihan Demir smash all-time serving records as Eczacibasi VitrA Istanbul storm through to the 2016 FIVB Club World Championship semifinals in Manila.
Manila, Philippines, October 21, 2016 - Neslihan Demir and Gozde Yilmaz of Eczacibasi VitrA Istanbul smashed the competition record of most aces in a game, when they served five aces each against hosts PSL - F2 Logistics Manila in the closing match of pool play at the 2016 FIVB Women's Club World Championship.
The previous all-time record since the introduction of the rally scoring system was 4 aces in a single game, set ten times in the history of the competition - including twice here in Manila by Dobriana Rabadzhieva of Volero Zurich and Zhu Ting of VakifBank Istanbul in the same match.
Alyja Santiago of PSL - F2 Logistics Manila also served four aces in the match against the Eczacibasi.
The total of 14 aces by the defending world champions is also an all-time high, bettering the previous record of most aces in a single game, which was 12 twice by Foppapedretti Bergamo (against Kenya Prisons Nairobi in 2010) and by VakifBank Telekom Istanbul (again against Kenya Prisons in 2011).
