Manila, Philippines, October 20, 2016 - Pomi Casalmaggiore scored their second victory and formally made the next round with a 3-0 (25-19, 25-15, 25-21) sweep of hosts PSL-F2 Logistics Manila in the 2016 FIVB Women's Club World Championship on Thursday at the Mall of Asia Arena.
Pomi used their defense to control the host team's spikers and shut them down 5-0 before PSL-F2 Logistics' foreign player Lindsay Stalzer of USA scored one on the attack.
The win enabled the Italian team to make the next round as No. 2 team in Group A behind unbeaten Eczasibasi VitrA.
After an easy first two sets, Pomi encountered rough sailing in the third, when PSL-F2 Logistics Manila started putting up a fight. The host team led by as much as 18-13 on quick plays by local star Jaja Santiago.
Lucia Bosetti and Valentina Tirozzi led Pomi by scoring 16 and 14 points respectively. Pomi totalled 40 attacks against PSL-F2’s 36 and also prevailed in blocking 9-1.
