Preparations for Women’s Club World Championship shift up a gear

 

The 2016 edition of the FIVB Volleyball Women's Club World Championship was presented at a press conference in Manila.

Manila, Philippines, July 13, 2016 - The 2016 edition of the FIVB Volleyball Women’s Club World Championship was formally launched at a press conference in Manila on Wednesday.

FIVB Executive Co-Opted Member Stav Jacobi and Eventcourt CEO Peter Bratschi presided the unveiling of the tournament’s official poster with the help of Philippine Superliga Chairman Philip Ella Juico and President Ramon Suzara, who will spearhead the local organising body.

Jacobi said the Philippines is a perfect destination for world-class volleyball as the sport has already established a solid presence with the country’s most prestigious club league, the Philippine Superliga.

“The Philippines has a strong volleyball presence,” he said. “It is a key location for volleyball. We bring the Club World Championship to nations with massive followings for the sport.”

Also present during the launch were Jovelyn Gonzaga and Rachel Anne Daquis, the first two players selected to play in the Philippine All-Star squad.

Daquis features on the tournament's official poster, joining other players from Rexona Ades of Brazil, Volero Zürich of Switzerland, Pomì Casalmaggiore of Italy, Bangkok Glass of Thailand, Hisamitsu Springs of Japan as well as VakifBank Istanbul and Eczacibasi VitrA Istanbul of Turkey.

"We will work hard and try our best to make the country proud," Daquis said. "This is a serious competition. All the world's best players are here. We have to give our best to stand a good chance against them."

The event will take place at the Mall of Asia Arena in Manila from October 18 to 23. The composition of the pools will be announced in due course.
