FIVB President Graça thanked the organisers of the tournaments in Manila and Betim

Lausanne, Switzerland, October 27, 2016 - FIVB President Dr. Ary S. Graça F° praised successful FIVB Volleyball Club World Championships in Brazil and the Philippines after men's co-hosts Sada Cruzeiro and women's champions Eczacibasi VitrA Istanbul claimed the world titles on Sunday.

"The Club World Championships showcase the best of club volleyball around the world, the best players and the latest innovations in our sport," said President Graça. "I would like to thank the organisers for putting on fantastic events for the teams and fans. The Women's Club World Championship broke new ground with the Philippines, providing Philippine volleyball with a new opportunity to grow and its passionate fans with a chance to enjoy the best of international women's volleyball. Brazil again organised a memorable event in Betim, highlighted by an exciting contest between South American and European clubs through to the final day of the tournament."

The Philippines followed in the footsteps of Brazil (1991, 1994), Italy (1992), Qatar (2010, 2011, 2012) and Switzerland (2013, 2014, 2015) to host a highly succesful 2016 edition of the Women's Club World Championship, which saw Eczacibasi VitrA Istanbul become the first club to win back-to-back titles with victory against Pomi Casalmaggiore of Italy in Sunday's final. The event was the first FIVB Volleyball World Championship hosted by the country, also representing an opportunity for Philippine players to take on the best clubs in the world.
