Champions Rexona Ades pose with silver medallists San Martin and bronze medallists Villa Dora

La Plata, Argentina, February 28, 2016 - Rexona Ades from Brazil defeated Peruvian club San Martin 3-0 (25-16, 25-22, 25-17) to win their third South American Women's Club Championship. Villa Dora defeated fellow Argentinians and competition hosts Gimnasia y Esgrima de La Plata to win bronze.

Monique from Rexona was the top scorer of the final with 18 points, while Leyva scored 16 for San Martin.

“We are very happy because our target was to qualify for the FIVB Volleyball Women's Club World Championship (place and date to be confirmed) and we obtained the berth. Peru were tough rivals and at some moments played better than we did, but at the end we could celebrate,” said Natalia from Rexona.

“We fought a lot, we knew it would be a very hard match against Rexona and even though we played at their level it was not enough. We want to thank anyhow all the people from Peru who came to support us and we are sorry they could not celebrate the title,” said San Martín's Bruna Da Silva.

The match for third place between the two teams from Argentina was played in a crowded and colourful stadium - the visitors defeated the hosts GELP 3-1 (25-20, 24-26, 25-23, 27-25).

Villa Dora's Micaela Fabiani was the top scorer of the match for third place with 22 points, while Marcela Re and Paula Bertona scored 13 each for GELP.

“It is historical. Our goal was to improve our performance in relationship with our prior participation at the South American Club Championship and to be part of the podium. Our reinforcements were very important and our growth along the different matches,” said Villa Dora setter Karina Suligoy.

“I am very excited because it is a great fulfilment for our club. I also want to congratulate GELP, showing they are a great team during the whole competition,” added Villa Dora coach Lorena Gongora.
