Volero blast undefeated into semis, joined by VakifBank

Volero Zurich's Ekatrina Orlova pierces the block put up by Vakifbank Istanbul's Milena Rasic and Lonneke Loetjes as both teams make the 2016 FIVB Women's Club World Championship semifinals.

Manila, Philippines, October 20, 2016 - Volero Zurich stole victory from the jaws of defeat, escaping with a 3-2 (25-22, 27-25, 16-25, 12-25, 16-14) win over VakifBank Istanbul to sweep all its games in Pool B of the 2016 FIVB Women's Club World Championship at the Mall of Asia Arena.

Vakifbank absorbed their first defeat in two games but join Volero in qualifying from Pool B on the back of the point they gained when they forced the game into the tiebreak.

Volero were trailing 14-12 in the fifth set and needed some endgame hustle from Olesia Rykhliuk and Mariana 'Mari' Costa to pull it off and assure themselves of the top place in their group.

The Swiss club started off strong after taking the first two sets. But Vakifbank clawed back in the third and fourth frames against a relaxing Volero side.

Rykhliuk scattered 30 points for Volero who also got 11 points each from Foluke Akinradewo and Dobriana Rabadzhieva.

Olympic champion Zhu Ting scored 31 points and Rasic Milena 20 for Vakifbank. Milena also had 10 out of her team’s 18 blocks.
