Led by Rio bronze medallist Foluke Akinradewo of the United States and by 2014 CEV Champions League top scorer Olesia Rykhliuk, the newly crowned Swiss Supercup champions will be coached by Zoran Terzic, who guided the Serbian women’s national team to a historic silver medal finish at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games in August.

Club World Championship participants Rexona-Sesc Rio, Pomì Casalmaggiore, Eczacibasi VitrA Istanbul and VakifBank Istanbul are scheduled to arrive on Friday, giving them just enough time to warm up and to acclimatise before the tournament.

The Brazilian and Italian sides will land in the capital of the Philippines at 16:30 from Dubai while the defending champions will arrive at 18:30 from Istanbul.

Asian teams Bangkok Glass and Hisamitsu Springs Kobe will be the last to check in.

The sides from Thailand and Japan will arrive on Sunday at 11:55 from Bangkok and 12:55 from Osaka, respectively.

“Now the real work begins,” said PSL President Ramon Suzara. “We are doing our best to make sure that our hosting of this massive endeavour will be world-class and up to the FIVB standards. With the ample support from the government and the private sponsors, we know we can make this event successful.”

The hosting country will be represented by PSL-F2 Logistics Manila headed by captain Rachel Anne Daquis and local stars Mika Reyes, Kim Fajardo, Jovelyn Gonzaga, Jennylyn Reyes, Frances Molina and Alyja Daphne Santiago.

The Philippine players will line up alongside international players Stephanie Niemer and Lindsay Stalzer of the United States, Lynda Morales of Puerto Rico, Yevgeniya Nyukhalova of Ukraine, Ekaterina Krivets of Russia, Tichaya Boonlert of Thailand and Yuri Fukuda of Japan, and will be coached by Branislav Moro.

The tournament kicks off at 10.00 on Tuesday, October 18, with a clash between 2013 FIVB Volleyball Women’s Club World Championship winners VakifBank Istanbul and Japanese champions Hisamitsu Springs Kobe.

First, however, Philippine volleyball fans can look forward to meeting their idols at the official Meet & Greet event at Robinson’s Place in Manila at 14:00 on Saturday, October 15.
