Volero Zurich sweep Bangkok Glass in Manila

 

The Volero Zurich trio of Natalya Mammadova, Foluke Akinradewo and Olseia Rykhliuk deny an attack by Pornpun Guedpard of Bangkok Glass.

Manila, Philippines, October 18, 2016 - Multi-titled Swiss champions Volero Zurich jumpstarted their campaign on a high note, cruising past Bangkok Glass in straight sets, 3-0 (25-21, 25-19, 25-23) in Pool B of the FIVB Women's Club World Championship on Tuesday at the Mall of Asia Arena.

Olesia Rykhliuk led the charge for Volero Zurich finishing with 20 points, highlighted by 16 attacks.



Dobriana Rabadzhieva chipped in 17 markers, while USA national team member and the best middle blocker of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games Foluke Akinradewo delivered 11 markers.

Volero Zurich  notched the early 1-0 Pool B lead with VakifBank Istanbul, which had defeated Hisamitsu Springs Kobe earlier in straight sets.



Wilavan Apinyaopong had 12 points for Bangkok Glass, while American import Ashley Frazier registered 11 hits in a losing effort.

Bangkok Glass dropped to an 0-1 win-loss record in Pool B, joining fellow Asian team Hisamitsu Springs Kobe after the first day.
