Born in Serbia in 1984, 183 cm tall Maja Ognjenovic began playing volleyball in 1996 and joined the Serbian national team in 2005. A successful setter and the captain of the Serbian national team, Ognjenovic has played on the teams that won the bronze at the 2006 World Championship, silver at the 2015 World Cup,  bronze at the 2011 and 2013 World Grand Prix, silver at the 2007 European Championship, gold in 2011 and bronze in 2015. Her teams also won the gold in the European League in 2009, 2010, and 2011, the bronze in 2012, and the gold at the 2015 European Games. Ognjenovic has played in the following clubs: OK Postar (2002-2003), Kızıl Yıldız (2003-2005), Poštar 064 Belgrad (2005-2006), Metal Galati (2006-2008), Monte Schiavo Jesi (2008-2009), Eczacıbaşı Zentiva (2009-2010), Olympiacos (2010-2011), Volley Modena (2011-2012), Impel Wroclaw (2012-2013), Chemik Police (2013-2015) and Rebecchi Nordmeccanica Piacenza (2016). During her tenure with Kızıl Yıldız, the club won the 2004 championship; with Metal Galati, the 2007 and 2008 league championships and Romania Cup; with Monte Schiavo Banca Marche Jesi, the 2009 CEV Challenge Cup; and with Chemik Police, the 2014 and 2015 Poland championship and Poland Cup. The club also placed fourth in the 2015 European Champions League. Ognjenovic has also been recognized many times for her individual performance and voted “Best Setter” in three European Championships (2007, 2011 and 2015), three European League championships (2010, 2011 and 2012), the 2009 CEV Challenge Cup, and the 2015 European Champions League.
