Melis Gürkaynak, was born in April 20, 1990, in Ankara. She graduated from Bahçeşehir University Business Administration undergraduate programme and completed a master degree in Advertising and Brand Communication.
Melis, begun to play volleyball in 2009 in VakıfBank Sports Academy in Ankara. After spending six years in that academy, Melis moved to İstanbul and joined to VakıfBank Senior Team when she was just 15 years old.
Gürkaynak played for Galatasaray and Beşiktaş as a loaned player between 2008 and 2010 and she was transferred to Galatasaray in 2014. Just after one year separation from VakfıBank, she returned home in 2015.
The Turkish national middle blocker has won 2013 FIVB Club World Championship, 2011 and 2013 CEV Champions League, 2013, 2014 and 2016 Turkish League, 2013 and 2014 Turkish Cup, 2013 Turkish Super Cup titles. Also she was a part of the teams that has ranked number two in 2011 FIVB Club World Championship and 2014 and 2016 CEV Champions League.
